Vālmīki

Vālmīki is the original poet who wrote the rāmāyaṇa and the yoga-vasiṣṭha. These two works contain the essence of the vedas in simple, sweet language.

There are two major recensions of the yoga vasishtha
    • mokshopaya with bhaskarakantha's tika 
    • yoga vāsiṣṭha with ānanda bodhendra sasarvatī's tātparya prakāśa (~28,000 slokas)
The voluminous yoga vāsiṣṭha has been abriged:
    • laghu yoga vāsiṣṭha by abhinanda with advayāraṇya's candrikā (6000 slokas)
    • vāsiṣṭha sangraha by jnanananda bharati (1698 slokas)
