Vālmīki is the original poet who wrote the rāmāyaṇa and the yoga-vasiṣṭha. These two works contain the essence of the vedas in simple, sweet language.

- yoga vāsiṣṭha with ānanda bodhendra sasarvatī's tātparya prakāśa (~28,000 slokas)
The voluminous yoga vāsiṣṭha has been abriged:
- laghu yoga vāsiṣṭha by abhinanda with advayāraṇya's candrikā (6000 slokas)
- vāsiṣṭha sangraha by jnanananda bharati (1698 slokas)
